A highly effective tool for guiding students to move beyond simple matching in math activities.

Well, hello Reader,

I used to play this video for my students because it’s so cute, but it's also true! “One thousand steps starts with one!”

I noticed my first year of teaching, that my one nonverbal student was not being challenged but at the time I had NO IDEA how to challenge him!

Years later, I created this resource and I still think of K. and his sweet little face and hope that he had more experienced teachers later who knew how to educate him!

If you've been looking for something to help your nonverbal students during math lessons...read on! I’m going to help you with a few tips to get you stepping forward, one step at a time.

Tip #1: Put the right resources in front of your students. Nonverbal students are going to need visuals in order to answer questions and show you what they know.

Tip #2: Challenge your students with the next step. Use least to most prompting to push your student to the next level. First allow time for independent response. If no response, try a visual cue, then a gestural cue, then modeling, and lastly physical prompting.

Tip #3: Develop daily routines for foundational skills. Do things the same way every time, using the same verbiage. When they have mastered that, vary the verbiage, the materials, the setting, or other factor.

Today, I’m offering you 50% off on my Teaching Counting to Nonverbal Students BUNDLE!
